John Battersby

Biography

Dr John Battersby is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Defence and Security Studies, Massey
University, Wellington, lecturing in Intelligence and Counter Terrorism. John has a PhD in
history, spent a decade as a Crown Law Office historian working on Treaty of Waitangi claims. In 2005 he joined the New Zealand Police serving in a range of frontline roles as well a police prosecutor and Practice Leader at the School of Leadership, Management and Command
at the Royal New Zealand Police College. In 2016 John was the inaugural Police Research Fellow at the Centre for Strategic Studies, Victoria University of Wellington commencing research into the impact of terrorism on New Zealand. He joined Massey University as a
Teaching Fellow in 2016. John has published a book, written a number of book chapters
and articles on security related topics. He is Managing Editor of the National Security Journal.
